20 years ago, a little movie called Independence Day was released and become a huge box office hit with its Oscar Winning visual effects, solid action combat scenes and it made Will Smith a superstar. Now, what did its sequel Independence Day: Resurgence do? Being an absolute catastrophe from start to finish. I mean, it’s baffling that I was suckered in with the trailers because I thought they were actually pretty awesome even though I knew this was going to be dumb in a fun way. This is a career move that I can say Will Smith dodge a bullet with this. This is the same thing with the aliens attack earth, destroying monuments and everybody must fight to survive and stop the invasion. Can we have originally with our originally? The story is very excruciating and unintelligent for the audience watching boring action sequences that are painful to watch eventually the invasion starts happening.Everything completely failed for what his sequel tried to accomplish. This another let down from director Roland Emmerich. From 10,000 B.C.,2012, and White House Down, just feels like he has no visionary style of action. Even from a writing standpoint, it’s probably the worst screenplay of the year and this took five writers to figure out where the plot goes with all these completely utter side plots happening. Did we need a story about kids drive around? This feels like a Michael Bay movie and Roland Emmerich is the poor man’s Michael Bay. You don’t care about the characters because they’re bland as sh*t and you don’t connect with any of them. The acting isn’t helpful either. Every time somebody speaks out a dumb line or a bit of comedy of this dialogue is a slap in the face. Even the great Jeff Goldblum didn’t make this work and Brent Spiner should’ve stayed in a coma and not be a part of the driest humor thrown in there. One point during the third act is felt like they jumped the shark and it’s not clear if it’s supposed to be taken seriously just melting your mind leaving you braindead. This is so close to being like a cousin to Transformers: Age of Extinction twice removed to where every aspect of it all is so very frustrating. Though the first movie wasn’t the greatest Sci-Fi movie wasn’t great, it was at least fun and watchable. It’s unexplainable what this was. But the funniest part about the entire this was that it actually sets it up for a sequel. Because everyone will love this that we really crave a third movie in a franchise that become disposable with this.
Independence Day: Resurgence is a real sh*t sandwich disaster that’s loud, badly directed, awfully written, has excruciating characters and not remotely fun.
