Pete’s Dragon (2016) Review

With hits like 2015’s Cinderella and this year’s The Jungle Book, it’s up to Pete’s Dragon to hopefully stay on the streak on successful Disney remakes. And while the trailers were underwhelming, the movie itself was a surprise. Pete’s Dragon is a lot different from the original 1977 version to where it isn’t a musical and it doesn’t involve a cartoon dragon, but has a good story and an outstanding looking CGI dragon. Director David Lowery (Ain’t Them Bodies Saints) really focused what’s important to the story which is about the bonding of Pete (Oakes Fegley) and Elliot, the loveable furry dragon (which I’ve grown to like even though dragons aren’t supposed to be furry) and it’s perfectly utilized with a lot of heart and care with both characters wanting you to believe this friendship is real in some cases. It also makes you feel like you’re in the adventure and this is what it is.

An adventurous movie that plays it safe, Pete’s Dragon was so heartwarming and sweet making this another really good Disney remake that’s perfect for all audiences.
